FunkyDiva Music Provides digital jukebox systems for hire – perfect for the iPod generation

PARTIES ARE big business and almost every party needs music. Be it a birthday party dinner party corporate event wedding or a just because bash. People want their parties to be remembered and FunkyDiva Music can ensure this with its digital jukebox system for the iPod generation. The touch screen operation can play more than 12,000 tracks to suit all tastes through its 250-watt speakers. Partygoers can even create their own playlists.

FunkyDiva Music’s founder Jan Tovarys realised that when organising a party locality is key, he says: “Organisers usually use businesses that are based in their region. so franchising provided the solution. To expand, we are currently looking to recruit for a network of reliable franchisees around the country.”

FunkyDiva Music is a low maintenance, high demand product. Franchisees are able to benefit from the investment in national marketing and a central booking system, but at the same time have the freedom to generate interest of their own on a local level and take direct bookings. Most importantly, they can retain control over their bookings, taking as many or as few as they wish. A typical week for a franchisee consists of working mainly over weekends. Jan says: “There are deliveries on Fridays or Saturdays, pickups on Sundays or Mondays. The franchise is ideal for someone who already has a sizable van that is sitting idle over the weekend.

The more time they can spend on promoting the product when the equipment is not earning any fees, the better. Activities such as talking to local venues and even organisers, as well as physical promotion in shops, are extremely effective.’

An excellent example of how quickly a business can get established is the Birmingham franchisee MIDAS contractors. When MIDAS signed up for FunkyDiva in April, it had little experience in the party or events industry but were looking for an opportunity that offered flexibility, needed little storage space and came with central support.

Within weeks the first local bookings started to come through the main booking website. MIDAS director Hardip Rai says: “How did we achieve this? The answer was simple. Local marketing and word of mouth are extremely important.

“We started by calling all the hotels and other venues in Birmingham and almost immediately we got a booking from one hotel,” says Hardip. MIDAS has now been booked for every weekend for the last three months and Hardip is taking on an additional FunkyDiva unit from July.

In terms of franchisee support, Jan explains: We provide a one-day introduction, training and ongoing marketing and technical support. We invest heavily in nationwide marketing especially internet marketing Google: Yahoo, Yell, etc. The majority of the bookings come through our website.”

So what does FunkyDiva Music offer that its competitors don’t? Jan replies: “FunkyDiva is quite unique. There is no other company that can provide the same level of service for the same price.

“The other jukebox hire companies are either local, with limited supply, or are very expensive. The equipment we provide was designed for the party hire market and is designed to be extremely user friendly, easily transportable and robust “We grow our supply quickly so we can satisfy the demand at peak periods at the same price. We don’t charge any extra for places far away’.

There are various entry-levels into the business. The investment level starts at £3000 for one unit, plus approximately £1,000 for local marketing. Jan adds: “If a franchisee wants to make some decent income, they would need to invest about £10,000 to buy several units” So if you’d like a franchise that is partly home-based with low overheads and flexible hours or are looking for a bolt-on to an existing business, FunkyDiva Music could be the business for you.
